[project description]
As part of the "Domestic Assemblage" workshop, a hybrid PVC luminaire with a basic lamp circuit was designed and constructed. This project aimed to improve lighting conditions and office organization. The desk lamp frame can be adapted and evolved according to the user's needs, offering external features such as cases for notebooks and office supplies, a lamp holder, and a hanger. Internally, it includes small pencil cases and channels for circuit cables.
The construction is simple, low-tech, and requires only basic mechanical tools — cutting, melting, and assembling parts together. The materials used are building and utilitarian items commonly found in domestic settings, making the project accessible to anyone interested in DIY practices. The design allows for easy disassembly for transport, storage, or modification, embodying a flexible and sustainable approach to everyday living solutions.
* The "Domestic Assemblage" workshop was a 6-week program co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and organized by the University of Thessaly for the Open Up Project. This workshop focused on designing and constructing everyday living objects and furniture. It aimed to create low-cost domestic forms and structures by reconfiguring elements found in participants’ homes and nearby areas. Following a methodology of collecting and assembling fragments from the surrounding material world, participants transformed and reused these fragments to create new domestic performances.
